Both the uncirculated and the proof versions in stock now for immediate delivery.
After the special one-year-only design in 2005, half sovereigns and sovereigns reverted to the traditional reverse design of St. George slaying the dragon.
Our prices show a worthwhile saving compared with buying from the Royal Mint at their official price of £62.50 each for the uncirculated (bullion) version.
Buying from us you also get the benefit of buying from expert professional numismatists who have been in the business for over 40 years. while we appreciate the Royal Mint have existed for longer, we know more about sovereigns and half sovereigns than they do!
In Stock 19th January 2008
Gold proof half sovereigns came into stock 19th January 2008. Issue limits were reduced to 5,000 in 2006, and may be the same for 2008.
The Royal Mint's price on the 2006 proof version was increased from to £96.50, and we guess they may increase the 2008 proofs further.
Changes!
The reverse dies for sovereigns, half sovereigns, double sovereigns and quintuple sovereigns were remastered and recut in 2007. See our 2007 sovereigns page of our Gold Sovereigns website for more information.
Advance Orders
As in other recent years, we will be placing a large advance order for both proof and uncirculated half sovereigns. We offer them at advance order prices for a short time.
Uncirculated Bullion Version
These arrived into stock direct from the Royal Mint on 4th January 2008, and we are now offering competitive prices as usual.
Proof Version - In Stock Now
The proof versions arrived in stock a few days late on 13th February 2008...just in time for Valentines Day!
Issue Limits
For 2008, the issue limit is expected to be set at a maximum of 75,000. This is the same as for 2005.
The issue limit for the proof versions is expected to be 5,000.
2008 Advance Order Prices
Due to the currently increasing gold price we have had to increase our 2008 gold prices twice already and it is only January 9th! We have tried to keep our prices as competitive as possible and are still £2.50 below the original issue price.
