1932 Netherlands 10 Guilders of Queen Wilhelmina
Fourth Type 1925 to 1933
Queen Wilhelmina enjoyed a long reign from 1890 to 1948, and four different designs of gold 10 guilder coins were issued in this time. The fourth type was issued between 1925 and 1933 inclusive, although only five dates were issued, including 1932.
Description
Obverse
The obverse of the fourth issue shows a large portrait of Queen Wilhelmina facing right, but shorter than the previous issue, truncated at the neck, with no tiara. The neck protrudes slightly into the inscription (legend) KONINGEN WILHELMINA GOD ZIJ MET ONS.
Reverse
The reverse design, which identical to that of the previous issue, shows a crowned lion bearing a sword and arrows on a large shield surmounted by a large crown. At either side is the denomination 10 G. The legend reads KONINGRIJK DER NEDERLANDEN, and the date 1932 appears below the shield. There is a seahorse to the left of the date, and a caduceus to the right.
Guilders, Gulden, and Florins
The Dutch monetary unit has various names. In the Netherlands, it is known as a gulden or florin, but English speakers usually refer to it as a guilder.
