James I Gold Laurel (Third Issue)
The Laurel was introduced in 1619 to replace the overvalued 20 shilling 'Unite'. The new, lighter weight gold coin was issued for the remainder of James I's reign. The name of the coin was subsequently dropped upon the accession of his son, Charles I and the 'Unite' reintroduced.
