1922 United Service Institution of India Gold Medallion
Featured is a gold medallion which we believe to have been first prize in the 1922 annual essay writing competition of the United Service Institution India, awarded to Major (later Lt-General) Hugh Gray Martin, then an artillery officer in the British Indian Army.
Martin ended his military career as a general officer commanding the 3rd Anti-Aircraft Corps in 1942, thereafter he became a military correspondent for the Daily Telegraph and died in 1969 aged 82.

Depicts Athena wearing a corinthian Helmet, surrounded by the legend: 'UNITED SERVICE INSTITUTION OF INDIA'
Reverse
Two Crowns surrounded by a laurel wreath. The names of the engravers JS and AB Wyon are visible below the wreath.
