2003 British Gold 3 Coin Proof Sets - Now in Stock
Gold Sovereign Series
Each year since 1980, the Royal Mint have produced sets of 3 and 4 coins in the gold soveriegn series. The 3 coin sets consist of a sovereign, half sovereign and double sovereign or two pound piece.
Proofs Now Released
We have now received our first delivery of the 3-coin gold proof sets, and can supply them for immediate delivery.
St. George & Dragon Reverse
In 2002, being Golden Jubilee year, the sovereign series all had a special shield design, for 2003, they reverted to the traditional St. George and dragon design, except that the three coin sets contain the commemorative two pound coin, as noted below.
Issue Limits
For 2001, the issue limit was only 1,500. The issue limits for 2002 were increased considerably to 5,000 because of the Golden Jubilee celebrations. For 2003 the issue limit is only 2,500. Please note that the 4-coin gold proof sets are already sold out at the Royal Mint, and cannot predict how long stocks of the 3 coin sets will last.
Design News
In previous years the 3 coin and 4 coin sovereign collections have usually contained all coins of the same design, however in a number of years, the two pound coin included with the sets has been the commemorative version instead. For 2003, there is a change. The three coin sets contain the commemorative two pound, while the four coin sets contain the St. George and Dragon version.
