2013 150th Anniversary of the London Underground Gold Proof £2 Two Coin Set
In 2013, The Royal Mint issued two £2 coins, commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the London Underground. This set contains both gold proof versions of the coins. London Underground
On 10th January, 1863, the world's first underground railway network opened to the public. Since then, the London Underground has grown and evolved; from steam trains to electric trains; from eight lines to eleven, it now helps over 1,100 million people a year get to where they need to be. Pioneers in transportation, it also lead the way for the New York Subway in 1904 and the Eurotunnel in 1986. Presentation
The set comes in a presentation box, with a certificate of authenticity. It also features a booklet, containing information about the 150 years the underground has been running for.
Reverse
The 'logo' reverse design is inspired by the 1938 poster by Man Ray. It depicts the world-famous London Underground logo.
The 'train' reverse shows a tube train coming out of a tunnel.
